When Life Gives You Lemons....

What is your favourite fairy tale story? Seems like a rather random question, yet not entirely, considering everything we watch has a fairy tale theme to it... Do the words "and they lived happily ever after" ring a bell?

Unfortunately many of us permit ourselves to live with the belief that life is like a fairy tale - the boy gets the girl; the hero wins the day; the lead character doesn't die - when in actual fact, nothing could be further from the truth. Yes, there are moments of great triumph; Yes, the common girl does become a princess and Yes, dreams do come true. But sometimes, things just don't work out the way we would have hoped and instead of moving on and living life, we mope around feeling sorry for ourselves, wondering why the fairy godmother hates us so...

I was reading the story of Samson in the Bible; you know... The man with super strength because of his long hair...? And even his story didn't end "happily ever after" (I think he is one of the very few in the Bible to be honest - just goes to show).

That's the summarised version read his full story
in the book of Judges 13-16
After making a series of bad decisions, he ends himself up in loads of trouble. He realises his mistakes after sometime in captivity, and while being put to work and mocked one day in the temple of Dagon, he decides that enough is enough, and ends it all by doing what he was intend to do in the first place. It was a bitter-sweet ending; nevertheless, he died a hero...

Yes! Super depressing, but also a great reminder that we only have ONE life and that we only have one opportunity to live it out to the fullest. We cannot live it off yesterday and we can't live for tomorrow; we've got to focus on today and we've got to make every minute count! Yes, we all want a fairy tale ending, but life isn't a fairy tale, sometimes the ending sucks and there is nothing we can do about it but we can make the choice to make it the best life ever... no matter what!

I'm not saying don't believe for a happy ending, I'm not saying don't hope for tomorrow, and I'm definitely not saying live depressively (that's the last thing we need). I'm just saying you ought to enjoy life regardless of what it brings you each day because - you were born with a purpose, you've got live it out; you were given talents, you've got to use them; you are given many opportunities, you've got to grab them, and when things seem to be falling apart (or actually do fall apart), you've got to just take it all one day at a time. You've got to live your life in such a way, that others are impacted and inspired by it, regardless of how it ends...

So, when life gives you lemons, get some salt (they taste better that way)... or better yet...
ps - I LOVE fairytales!
