My Adventure At A Petrol Station

I often have to visit a petrol station to fill my car up so that I can drive it around, I'm sure you can relate. I also happen to be a rather friendly person; many of my friends would say I’m a little too friendly, I just think it's because I smile a lot. Sadly, my friendliness is generally misinterpreted, so I often find myself in the awkward position of having to decline some rather interesting advances.
The petrol station is one of those places and to avoid harassment, I have had to start strategically filling up at a variety of stations in the area where I live...

Anyway, so one particular Wednesday evening, after running a 10km race, I pulled into a station I hadn't been to in a while. The attendant apparently remembered me, even though I had no idea who he was; so being the polite person that I am, I responded as usual in my friendly manner. As we were chatting, I decided to ask him how he had been - apparently that was a bad idea...

The conversation went a little something like this...

Him - oh it's been bad

Me - aaah! Why?
Him - because you have been away and I haven't seen you
Me - oh.. (with a disinterested and slightly annoyed giggle)

At this point I attempt to change the topic as I pick up my phone and pretend to be checking a message or something. Of course he was persistent, and the conversation continued downhill and all I wanted to do was to drive away but, he still had my credit card – sigh...

Him - we should go to the beach or something

Me - <nervous giggle, pretend not to hear him>

Him - so what do you say?
Me - say about what?
HimWhen can I take you to the beach... actually you should take me because you're the one with the car

Now, we just need to pause here for a second. Boys, there's something you need to know. If you are keen on "getting" a girl... this is NOT how it's done. You've got to at least pretend to make an effort, and don't use your limitations as an excuse! - Back to the conversation...

Me – you have to ask permission first

Him - permission? From who? (sic) (he genuinely sounded surprised)

Me - I have a lot of people who care about me, who you would need to ask permission from before you can take me anywhere (this is one of the best line I have ever used, that I intend to use again. It worked like a charm and the best part... it's all true - thank you friends!)

At this point my phone starts ringing and as I pick up, my credit card and slip are very quickly returned to me with an.. "Oh" response, and then... he walked away. As I drove away I wondered... is that really how it's done? Guys... do you just give it one shot and when you don't get what you want you just give up?? Really??

Don't get me wrong - when you know someone is not interested, it's probably best to just walk away... but you never know, one more try couldn't hurt... right... just to make sure?? I mean sometimes girls like to play hard to get (that wasn't me that day) to see how far you're willing to go and whether or not you are really interested... No??

I found the whole experience rather interesting and it wasn't a first but I did learn two things (I'm sure loads more could be said, but this is the simplified version) - guys... unfortunately, it's your job to do the "hunting", so you've just gotta man up and roll with or take the punches (which ever way you'd like to look at it); girls - be nice!!!

And if all else fails, the concept in this video is worth giving a shot :)
