The Joys Of Being A Woman

There's always a first time for everything... for me it happens in the weirdest ways and for the weirdest reasons. While heading home one Friday evening, I noticed that my car was making a funny thud sound while driving, however, seeing it had just come back from being serviced, I figured it had something to do with that and that the noise would eventually go away or I would have to take it back (something I dread immensely), so I just ignored it. When I got home, I parked the car as normal and didn't drive it until that Sunday morning.

I had woken up bright and early that morning as I was serving at church. After getting myself ready and gathering everything I needed, I made my way to my car and put everything (there was loads) in it. I got in, started it and headed for the main gate. About 5 secs into my journey, I concluded that something was definitely wrong... For some strange reason the car wasn't moving as it usually does and it was quite lob-sided. So 5m away from my parking bay, I stop my car, get out and start checking all sides (not sure what I was looking for to be honest). And then I discover it.... my very first, very flat tyre; and my mom and dad aren't even in the country - not that they could help anyway if they were, but a girl always needs emotional support.. even for flat tyres.

It took me about 2secs to decide that I wasn't going to attempt fixing the tyre myself (didn't have the time or the energy); so, I took everything out of my car and headed back to the apartment and used my sister's car instead (thank goodness for sisters). While at church serving, I had the very challenging task of finding someone who could come and help me change the tyre; it's a bit of an impossibility because everyone I know is involved at church in some capacity and are pretty much unavailable on Sundays. Still, I somehow managed to get hold of a friend who wasn't too busy, and he graciously took some time out to come and change the tyre (he was done in like 5min - quickest tyre change like EVER!), and within minutes my car was back to normal.

Now, it has to be said that the experience was rather inconvenient, and yet I managed to remain calm through it all (I normally freak out during moments like that - and I'm really good at it, but not this time...). Still, it seems that if you're a woman in "distress", you're somehow still at the bottom end of every male joke; being mocked for your incapabilities. I had so many of the guys ask questions such as "how do you not know how to change a tyre?" and "how did you not know that something was wrong on Friday already?" and "why didn't you call your insurance company to come help you?" I even had one of my friends ask if I had a spare tyre... seriously what kind of question is that? I know I'm a woman, but I'm not dumb... Gosh!!

Regardless though, I learnt a lot, and the most important (in my opinion)...

1. Cars make different noises all the time, when it's new and unusual, check it out (or have it checked out.. either way, do something about it).

2. Guys will automatically think women can't do anything guys can do - let them believe that, there's no point in arguing (it makes them happy and you know the truth - you can always surprise them one day).

3. Insurance companies provide roadside assistance (most for free) and will send someone out when you find yourself stuck in a jam (I personally prefer calling my friends because I feel it's safer, but at least  roadside assistance is there as a last resort)

4. There is a reason why God created men and women differently, so they can perform different tasks for each other... women are there to make sure guys  don't kill themselves (you know with all the dangerous stunts they like to pull) and men are there to do all the "hands-on" stuff that women can't or don't wanna do (ha ha ha ha - oh she just went there... ha ha ha ha).

All in all though, it has to be said that although somewhat frustrating, it was a rather fun experience; I don't plan on going through it again, but if I do at least I have a vague idea of what to do and who to call. And the best part of it all... I managed to contribute to the "roll eyes; slap forehead; sigh and utter women" club... he he he

And just for fun...
